This image holds a profound place in my heart.

With the collaboration of my friend Sami, I made the photo 5 years before my father was hospitalized, but during the most difficult time of my life, it became a canvas for my emotions.

After visiting him in the hospital and feeling the weight of the inevitable, I sat down with this image and began shading into it. The angel wings and halo slowly materialized—it felt natural, unintentional.

It became more than just a photo—it reflected everything I was feeling. It captures the fragile balance between hope and acceptance. As much as I wanted to believe my father would recover, I also had to confront what was coming.

When the doctors told my father he wouldn’t be leaving the hospital, he sat quietly for a moment, looking at our tear-filled faces, then, with the calmest acceptance, he simply said, “Pues, así es” (so be it). He passed away a few days later.

It’s been two years now. This image will forever remind me of my father and that delicate intersection of hope, love, and letting go.
